Cause
A German company needs a decentralized drinking water treatment system for a foreign location in Mali. The existing brackish groundwater contains salts and elevated levels of manganese, iron and arsenic and is to be treated to safe drinking water quality. WEIL Wasseraufbereitung was commissioned for this project.
Brackish water desalination for drinking water production
For drinking water treatment, WEIL Wasseraufbereitung installed a two-line system with a pure water capacity of 2 x 1.5 m³/h in 40-foot high cube containers. In addition, an external drinking water storage tank with a volume of 50 m³ was built.
The following process stages were installed in the containers:
- Sedimentation stage
- Multi-stage iron removal
- Demanganization
- 4 x 50 m³ filtrate storage tank
- Reverse osmosis with CIP cleaning system
- Deacidification
- 6 x 50 m³ drinking water storage tank
- Double pressure boosting 2 x 25 m³/h
- UV disinfection
- On-demand chlorination
- Drinking water cooling system with 47 kW cooling capacity in tropical model
