Cause
Various aquatic biotopes of the animals and plants living in them are recreated in aquariums. As in nature, the living conditions can vary greatly. In addition to the water temperature, current and light conditions, the water composition is of particular importance. The required water qualities are usually prepared from desalinated drinking water by adding the necessary minerals. Drinking water also generally contains undesirable substances, such as pesticide and drug residues, hormones or hormone-like substances that reduce the reproduction rates of fish, and lead to excessive nitrate concentrations, which have an unfavorable effect on the growth and color of corals, among other things. In addition, silicates (silicic acid) lead to undesirable growth of diatoms. These form brown, greasy deposits on the substrate and glass.
A large German pet shop with a total of 23 stores in Germany and Austria commissioned WEIL Wasseraufbereitung with the installation of two reverse osmosis systems for two different locations at the end of 2022. WEIL has thus equipped a total of 16 pet retail stores (as of January 2023).
Combination Reverse Osmosis System with Double Softening WRO 500 HR
The two compact systems installed, each with a permeate capacity of 500 l/h, each contain the necessary fine filtration, system separation, double softening and reverse osmosis system as a ready-to-connect unit on a space-saving stainless steel frame, which minimizes installation costs and time. Reverse osmosis retains well over 99% of pesticide and drug residues, hormones and hormone-like substances. Softening before reverse osmosis enables a high water yield with maximum protection of the reverse osmosis membranes against lime deposits. The downstream mixed bed desalination cartridges desalinate the water to conductivity values below 1 µS/cm and almost completely remove the silicic acid. Reverse osmosis membranes with a particularly high salt rejection rate (HR - High Reject) were used to increase the service life of the mixed bed resin and thus reduce operating costs. In the meantime, 16 branches of the above-mentioned specialist pet shops, as well as numerous zoos, animal parks and privately run show aquariums have been equipped with Weil Wasseraufbereitung GmbH systems.
