In the groundwater treatment plant, the volume flows from each well are first recorded and then reach a raw water supply with an integrated light and heavy material separator. After flowing through a coalescence separator, the water is passed through three stripping columns via several pressure increase stages. There, the LCCs and BTEX pollutants present at the site, as well as all other volatile pollutants, are transferred to the air phase.

The resulting exhaust air is passed through a catalytic oxidation system and the pollutants are converted into carbon dioxide, water, and hydrogen chloride. Hydrogen chloride is removed from the exhaust air in a downstream gas scrubber.

The water is then passed through a gravel filter, in which iron compounds and other filterable substances are retained.

All remaining pollutants (PAHs, phenols) are removed by biological purification. Three fixed-bed bioreactors are used for this purpose. In order to optimize biodegradation, atmospheric oxygen and nutrients are dosed before and in the biofilters.

The purified water is then collected in a pure water reservoir before it is discharged into the R-channel. The plant is equipped with a backwashing system in which the gravel filters can be rinsed fully automatically, and the columns and bioreactors can be rinsed manually. The backwashing water is collected in a separate container and disposed of discontinuously.
