Processes: Edge split filter, Ultrafiltration, Reverse osmosis
Commissioning: 2024
KF Company: Weil Wasseraufbereitung GmbH

Cause
Prior to commissioning the new water treatment system, the customer utilized mechanically filtered rainwater, drinking water, and a smaller quantity of treated river water.
Due to steadily increasing cost pressures, the use of drinking water is to be discontinued in the future. Despite a large rainwater storage basin, climate change has meant that sufficient rainwater is not always available to the customer. Additionally, the aging river water treatment system was not capable of meeting the increased process water demands.
River water treatment system for process water production
The river water is extracted using a submersible pump that, mounted on a floating pontoon, always draws from below the water surface. This setup significantly reduces the intake of floating solids and bottom sediments. The extracted river water is first pre-filtered by a backwashable wedge wire filter (35 m³/h) with a fineness of 250 µm. It is then processed through an ultrafiltration system (30 m³/h) to remove all particles and bacteria larger than 0.2 µm. In the final treatment stage, reverse osmosis (22.5 m³/h) is used to extensively desalinate the water and remove unwanted dissolved organic substances.
